 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप ने पिछले साल अगस्त में ओवल ऑफिस में वेनेजुएला पर प्रतिबंध लगाने को लेकर हुई एक बैठक के अंत में अपने शीर्ष सहयोगियों से एक अजीब सा सवाल पूछकर सबको अचंभे में डाल दिया था. उन्होंने कहा था कि अमेरिका वेनेजुएला पर कब्जा क्यों नहीं कर लेता.

बैठक की जानकारी रखने वाले एक वरिष्ठ प्रशासनिक अधिकारी ने इस गोपनीय बातचीत का खुलासा किया है. अधिकारी ने नाम गोपनीय रखने की शर्त पर बताया कि ट्रंप ने बैठक के अंत में अपने शीर्ष सहयोगियों से मुखातिब होते हुए कहा था कि क्षेत्रीय सुरक्षा को खतरे में डालने वाले वेनेजुएला पर जब कोई समाधान नहीं निकल रहा है तो अमेरिका उस अशांत देश पर कब्जा क्यों नहीं कर लेता ?
