बॉलीवुड अभिनेत्री सोनाली बेंद्रे ने खुलासा किया कि वह हाई ग्रेड कैंसर से पीड़ित हैं. उनसे पहले अभिनेत्री मनीषा कोइराला और अभिनेता इरफान खान ने कैंसर से पीड़ित होने की जानकारी दी थी. इन मामलों के सामने आने के साथ इस बात पर जोर दिया जा रहा है कि समय की जरूरत है कि जीवन के हर स्तर पर समय-समय पर स्वास्थ्य जांच करवाएं. साथ ही इस तरह की समस्याओं से बचाव के बारे में जागरूकता पैदा करना भी जरूरी है. भारत में कैंसर से करीब 25 लाख लोग पीड़ित हैं और हर साल सात लाख से अधिक नए मामले दर्ज होते हैं. कैंसर के सभी प्रकारों में, पुरुषों में मुंह व फेफड़ों का कैंसर और महिलाओं में गर्भाशय या सर्विक्स व स्तन कैंसर ज्यादा होता है. देश में होने वाली सभी संबंधित मौतों में लगभग 50 फीसदी योगदान इन्हीं कैंसर का है.हार्ट केयर फाउंडेशन (एचसीएफआई) के अध्यक्ष डॉ. के. के. अग्रवाल ने कहा, “सोनाली बेंद्रे को कैंसर होने की खबर सिर्फ एक तथ्य की ओर इशारा करती है कि समय पर निदान का बड़ा महत्व है. कैंसर उन कई संबंधित बीमारियों का समूह है जो तब होती हैं जब असामान्य कोशिकाओं का एक समूह अनियंत्रित रूप से बढ़ने लगता है. इस तरह से अक्सर ट्यूमर बन जाते हैं. ट्यूमर या तो सामान्य होते हैं या घातक. चार प्रमुख प्रकार की रोकथाम की जरूरत है : टीकाकरण, स्क्रीनिंग, परामर्श (जीवनशैली में परिवर्तन) और केमोप्रिवेन्शन.”

कारण की पहचान
डॉक्टर अग्रवाल के अनुसार स्क्रीनिंग से एक विषम बीमारी, अस्वास्थ्यकर स्थिति या जोखिम कारक की पहचान की जाती है. शुरुआती रोकथाम बीमारी को होने से रोकने के लिए किए जाने वाले प्रयास हैं, सेकेंडरी प्रीवेंशन में बीमारी को पकड़ने की कोशिश की जाती है और बीमारी की जटिलताओं को कम करने के रूप में तृतीयक रोकथाम की जाती

जल्दी पता लगने पर

डॉ. अग्रवाल ने कहा, “कैंसर का अगर जल्दी पता चल जाता है, तो इसका इलाज बहुत कम लागत पर किया जा सकता है. अगर शुरुआती लक्षण प्रकट होते ही लोग स्क्रीनिंग कराने जाते हैं, तो मृत्यु की आशंका कम हो जाती है. दुर्भाग्यवश, कैंसर के लगभग दो-तिहाई मामलों का निदान लास्ट स्टेज में किया जाता है, जिससे रोगियों के इलाज और उनके बचने के अवसर कम हो जाते हैं.”

क्या हैं बचाव 
कुछ बातों को अपनाकर कैंसर के खतरे को कम किया जा सकता है. लक्षणों पर ध्यान देकर और नियमित रूप से जांच कराकर खतरे को कम किया जा सकता है.
– तंबाकू की लत छोड़ना या कम करना कैंसर की रोकथाम में सबसे महत्वपूर्ण कदम है.
– नल के पानी को ठीक से फिल्टर करें क्योंकि इससे संभावित कैंसर कारकों और हार्मोन को नुकसान पहुंचाने वाले रसायनों से बचाव हो सकता है.
– समय पर और शेड्यूल के अनुसार टीकाकरण करवाएं, बहुत सारा पानी और अन्य तरल पदार्थ पीने से मूत्र में कैंसर पैदा करने वाले एजेंटों को फ्लश करने में मदद मिलती है, जिससे मूत्राशय के कैंसर का खतरा कम करने में मदद मिल सकती है.
– सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात यह है कि स्वस्थ आहार खाने और नियमित व्यायाम करने की आदत डालें.
– फल और सब्जियां एंटीऑक्सीडेंट से समृद्ध होती हैं, जो बीमारियों से बचाने में मदद कर सकती हैं.
