काजीरंगा राष्ट्रीय उद्यान में महान भारतीय एक-सींग वाला गैंडॉ॰

असम भारत के उत्तर-पूर्वी क्षेत्र का मध्य राज्य है और बाक़ी सात सहोदरा राज्यों के लिए मुख्य द्वार के रूप में कार्य करता है। असम का गौरव है प्रसिद्ध वन्यजीव परिरक्षण – काज़ीरंगा राष्ट्रीय उद्यान (चित्रित)और मानस राष्ट्रीय उद्यान, सबसे बड़ा नदी द्वीप माजुली और ब्रिटिश राज के समय के चाय-बागान. मौसम ज्यादातर उप उष्णकटिबंधीय है। असम भारतीय मानसून का अनुभव करता है और भारत के सर्वाधिक वन घनत्वों में से एक है। सर्दियों के महीने (अक्टूबर से अप्रैल) यात्रा के लिए अनुकूल समय है।

अंग्रेज़ों के आने से पहले कई सदियों तक इस क्षेत्र का नियंत्रण संभालने वाले अहोम राजवंश की शुरूआत से, असम का एक समृद्ध सांस्कृतिक विरासत रहा है। अन्य उल्लेखनीय विशेषताओं में शामिल हैं ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी, जटिंगा में पक्षी आत्महत्या का रहस्य, तांत्रिक संप्रदाय के कामाख्या सहित असंख्य मंदिर, राजमहलों के खंडहर, आदि। असम की राजधानी, शहर गुवाहाटी में अनेक बाज़ार, मंदिर और वन्यजीव अभयारण्य मौजूद हैं।
